A permanent resident who has been physically residing in Canada for the past 3 years [1095 days] out of the 5 years immediately preceding their application for citizenship. The requirement to be physically present in Canada for 1,095 days does not apply to children under the age of 18.
22. Are all children born in Canada, Canadian citizens?
Yes! Children born in Canada are Canadian citizens irrespective of their parent’s status in Canada.
33. How can minor children become Canadian citizens?
Minor children [including adoptive children] must first be a permanent resident of Canada to become a Canadian citizen. However, the physical presence requirement of 1,095 days does not apply to minor children as long as one of the minor children’s parents is a Canadian citizen, or applying for Canadian citizenship at the same time.
