Process for Securing a Study Permit

To successfully study in Canada as a post-secondary student, students need to confirm that the learning institution is designated by the government of Canada in the desired province of study. Receive letter of acceptance from school, apply for a study permit, pay application fee and biometric fee and finally, must not be inadmissible to Canada.

 

Minor Children Studying in Canada

Minor children studying at the kindergarten level, minor children who are refugees or refugee claimants, and minor children in Canada with parents who are allowed to study or work and want to attend at the preschool, primary or secondary level do not need a study permit to study in Canada.

However, minor children coming to Canada just to study and who are travelling without their parents must apply for a study permit.

If a student wishes to study at the primary and secondary level; learning institutions are automatically designated learning institution and are not found on the designated learning institution list.

Furthermore, transitioning from secondary studies to post-secondary studies a change in conditions is required to continue studying. Students can also change their designated learning institutions at the same program level; without applying for a new study permit but students must update this information on their MyCIC account.
